Top 20 Worst-Selling Vehicles In Canada - June 2016

2016 Chrysler 300
As of June 2016's Canadian worst sellers list, we've added a new formula to better enable you to see the recent results of vehicles trending in the wrong direction. Not only can you see the 20 lowest-volume vehicles in Canada and the 20 vehicles declining the most rapidly on a year-over-year percentage scale. Now you can also see a list of higher-volume vehicles which are also declining rapidly.

Canada Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - June 2016 YTD

In June, the Chrysler 300's 58% year-over-year decline topped the new list. One other car, the increasingly troubled Volkswagen Passat also lost more than half its volume. In total, ten cars which attracted more than 250 sales (the Canadian minimum for this new worst sellers tabulation) plunged by more than 30%, a collective loss from those ten vehicles of  more than 4200 sales.

Those ten vehicles – 300, Passat, GLC, Taurus, 3-Series, Flex, Jetta, Sonic, Cruze, Focus – owned 6.6% of the Canadian new vehicle market in June 2015. That figure fell to 3.9% in June 2016 as the market surged to an all-time June record.

There were a number of mainstream vehicles which were so unpopular that they didn't qualify for the new format. Dodge Dart, Nissan Titan, and Ford Fiesta.

Year-to-date, Canadian sales of the Chrysler 300 are down 17% to 2778 units. FCA Canada says 412 of the 2778 300s sold were 300Cs.

Top 20 Worst-Selling Vehicles In America - June 2016

2015 Chrysler 200
It all depends how you quantify it. But we'll put it this way: the Chrysler 200 was the worst-selling car in America in June 2016.

Not only did the 200 post a percentage drop of 58%, because the 200 was formerly a high-volume car, this meant the 200 lost 10,743 sales for Chrysler dealers.

U.S. Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - June 2016 YTD

The Hyundai Accent, for the sake of perspective, fell 52%. But that 52% loss equalled a more palatable 3402 lost sales for the Hyundai brand. The Accent, of course, is a continuing model. The Chrysler 200 is likely to end production in early 2017, if not sooner.

The 200's chart-topping 58% year-over-year U.S. June sales decline stands out because we've added a third worst sellers format for June 2016. You can still see the 20 lowest-volume vehicles, regardless of their status. You can still see the 20 sharpest declines, as well. But now we have a separate class for the 20 worst-selling volume vehicles. We've established a 2500-unit marker.

In June, the first month of establishing this new 20 Worst Sellers format, nearly half of the vehicles are mainstream brand passenger cars from the subcompact, compact, and midsize market: Chrysler 200, Hyundai Accent, Dodge Dart, Ford Fiesta, Kia Optima, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Sonata, Mazda 6.

You can always select a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page to find historical monthly and yearly sales figures from both Canada and the United States. Pertinent links are clickable at the bottom of this post, but you can also find related links at the Best Sellers page.
