Last known as a model year 2009 vehicle, the Hyundai Entourage was still somehow sourced for purchasing in Canada in 2011. 49 were sold. On the pickup side of the ledger, where there are now only 15 nameplates, Mazda sold 661 B-Series pickups in Canada in 2011. That was enough to make the B-Series more popular than the Cadillac Escalade EXT.

As usual, the Dodge Grand Caravan was Canada's best-selling minivan in 2011. 56.6% of all minivan sold in Canada were Grand Caravans. In total, 61.4% of all minivans sold in Canada in 2011 were Chrysler products, or 62.3% if you include the Routan as a member of the Windsor-built Chrysler family. The Toyota Sienna's 1775-unit victory over the Honda Odyssey came as a result of the Sienna's 8.8% year-over-year increase. Odyssey sales were also up, but only by 5.2%. Canada's overall new vehicle market increased by less than 2%.

In the mini-minivan segment, a category which now includes the awkward-looking Chevrolet Orlando, the Kia Rondo finished 2011 70 sales ahead of the Mazda 5. 13,366 mini-minivans were sold in Canada in 2011, meaning one was sold for every four Grand Caravans. Dodge is currently advertising the Grand Caravan's base price as $19,995, identical to the price point of the basic Rondo and Orlando. Mazda's Canadian website has the 5 at $21,895.

Take a look after the jump at detailed December and 2011 sales info on pickup trucks in Canada. The Ford F-Series, as you might have guessed, was easily the best-selling truck line. And while Dodge's Ram was quite clearly the number two truck, GM's twins were 22,906 sales ahead. You can also see more on the pickup truck market from this Top 10 Best-Selling Trucks post for December and this one for 2011. Of course, monthly and yearly sales figures for all these models and every other nameplate currently on sale can be accessed through the dropdown menu at the top right of this page.

The cars showcased in this article formed just 1.7% of the Canadian new vehicle market in 2011. Collectively, they're about as popular as Canada's 13th-best-selling vehicle, the Volkswagen Jetta.

So why aren't you noticing all these Hyundai Velosters on Canadian roads? The answer to that question is fairly basic. The Veloster is only popular in comparison to other brand new cars. A vehicle like, say, the Volkswagen GTI, has had years to build up a population, so they're still easily outnumbering Velosters on Canadian roads. But there's a second, more import response: there just aren't that many Velosters being sold. These charts make you think there are, the fact that the Veloster's December total is way higher than anything in this chart makes you think there are, but this is a chart which displays niche vehicles. Of which the Veloster is a startlingly successful example.

Ford Mustang sales slid 15% in 2011 but it was still the most popular sports/sporty/sporting/muscle car in Canada. Chevrolet Camaro sales fell 9%; the Dodge Challenger was down 24%, so the Mustang was in good company. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe was down 10% in 2011 but December was its best December yet as sales jumped 42%. The Scion tC forged a market for itself, one which might be hard to keep a hold on when the Scion FR-S comes to town, pulling tC buyers upmarket and yanking what few buyers remain for the Nissan 370Z. The Z, by the way, was one of Canada's worst-selling cars in 2011, along with the Honda CR-Z, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Volkswagen Eos, Porsche Cayman, Nissan GT-R, and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

High-end sports car sales figures for December and 2011 as a whole can be seen after the jump with the accompanying market share pie charts. Sales info on all these models and every other model on sale today can be accessed through the dropdown menu at the top right of this page.

Clearly GoodCarBadCar is not suggesting that the cars in the two tables above are all direct competitors. Establishing categories among cars as unique as even the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster has never pleased a single reader, so cars have been lumped together so you can simply see how buyers looking for sports cars, roadsters, hot hatches, convertibles, GTs, and wanna-be sports cars spend their money. Greater categorization of cars would only lead to problems that automakers create by not isolating model-specific sales figures: we don't know how many M3s BMW has sold or how many Civics are Si models, for example. The numbers we do have are listed above.

Big cars were less popular in 2011 than they were in 2010, at least in Canada. And by less popular, we do mean way less popular. Toyota Avalon sales only slid 1.2%, but the Avalon is the least popular big mainstream car. Its paltry sales total placed it on Canada's Worst-Selling Cars list for 2011.

But it gets much worse than 1% declines. Buick LaCrosse sales fell 28%. The Chrysler 300 was down 27%. And Ford Taurus sales dropped 15%. Not a single one of these vehicles were selling in large numbers before they suffered such drastic declines.

Keep scrolling for a look at the December and 2011 sales performances of jumbo SUVs in Canada. Few fared well. Use the dropdown menu at the top right of this page to find monthly and yearly sales figures, both Canadian and American, for these models and every other car currently on sale in North America.

In 2011, 34,285 people walked into General Motors dealerships in Canada and acquired either a Chevrolet Equinox or GMC Terrain. That statement proves just how successful the Ford Escape has been in the latter years of the first-gen Escape's lifespan. Escape sales rose 2.8% in 2011, a year in which the overall new vehicle market increased by less than 2%.

On a smaller scale, the RVR championed Mitsubishi to a victory over the Good 12-winning Nissan Juke, a very solid victory. The RVR beat the much more expensive Mini Countryman by 5501 sales, as well.

67% of the smallerish SUVs and crossovers which could possibly report a year-over-year increase in Canadian sales in 2011 did so. The Hyundai Santsa Fe, Jeep Patriot, Mitsubishi Outlander, Subaru Forester, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota RAV4, and Volkswagen Tiguan did not.

After the jump you can see December 2011 and year end sales figures for midsize SUVs and crossovers. Use the dropdown menu at the top right of this page to find monthly and yearly sales figures, both U.S. and Canadian, for all these nameplates and every other vehicle currently on sale.
