Small And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales In Canada - February 2014 YTD

2012 Mercedes-Benz ML
The $62,900-$98,500 BMW X5 continues to stand above all other premium brand utility vehicles in terms of total Canadian sales in 2014. February 2014 X5 volume was more than triple what BMW Canada managed in February 2013.

The X5's closest challengers are far more affordable, but their February gains were slight or nonexistent. Audi sold 484 Q5s, a 5% improvement; Lexus RX sales were level at 449. Fewer than one out of every 20 RXs sold was an RX450h.

The Q5 and some of its small, entry-level rivals combined for a 3% year-over-year decrease in February 2014 as sales of the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLK, and Volvo XC60 declined.

Volvo hasn't sold more than 100 XC60s in a single month since November.

Meanwhile, sales of many X5 rivals improved last month. Acura MDX volume was up 85%. The Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg triumvirate combined for 400 sales, a 14% increase. The Mercedes-Benz M-Class was up 35%. Range Rover Sport sales jumped 55%. Sales of the Lexus GX almost doubled.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better, right? This explains you'll see the XC70 listed with luxury cars as well as with SUVs and crossovers and the Touareg with luxury SUVs and mainstream SUVs... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
